About Us
Who we are
Meditation Artifacts is a nonprofit advancing meditation literacy through public events, educator programs, and research.
As an independent, nonsectarian meditation organization, we do not speak for any one meditation community. Instead, we convene perspectives from across traditions and secular contexts so communities can present their own views, and we do not endorse any one lineage over another.
What we do
-
Host public events, workshops, and an annual symposium to advance meditation literacy
-
Support meditation educators through fellowships, micro-grants, and community programs
-
Develop open resources and practical guidance for educators, clinicians, and researchers
Why “meditation literacy”
Our work draws on religious studies, anthropology, cultural studies, and science and technology studies. Informed by Religion and Public Life at Harvard Divinity School and Adaptive Leadership frameworks, we frame meditation as a set of context-dependent practices and focus on responsible, community-centered pedagogy.

Beyond recognition, meditation literacy requires co-creation so the future of meditation research, education, and technology is shaped by meditation communities and stakeholders.
Nonsectarian meditation organization
As an independent, nonsectarian meditation organization, we do not speak for any single meditation community. Instead, we host conversations across traditions and secular contexts, providing a space for communities to represent themselves.
How we started
Meditation Artifacts began in 2023 as a student-led reading group at Harvard Divinity School, started by Luca Del Deo. It expanded in 2024 as researchers and meditation enthusiasts put ideas into practice.
Since 2023, our team has organized multiple symposia at Harvard and related public events exploring how meditation is defined and practiced. In 2025, we formally founded the organization as a Boston-based nonprofit with a growing network of collaborators.
Moving forward, we are expanding beyond the Boston area both nationally and internationally with events, workshops, retreats, and lectures.
